CHAMPIONS: South Loup Track Teams Win The Day

Body
For Bobcats coach Rick Peterson, there was little doubt the Bobcats would repeat the conference track championship they’ve held since 2018. “I realized with the quality of athletes that the boys had that it was possible, but lower numbers from past years made me question if there were enough bodies to score in the 17 events that make up the conference meet,” Peterson said.

Lady Bobcats Cruise to 4th MNAC Title

Body
It would have appeared earlier this year that Coach Weverka's Lady Cats were a sure thing for a four-peat for the conference championship but things can change unexpectedly. With throwing standout Abby Stallbaumer out for a prior commitment, and Mya Weverka out sick the Lady Bobcats fell short about 30 points.
Tallianna Martin's smile says it all as she not only breaks the school record, but the MNAC meet record as well, clocking a 5:39 in the 1 mile run. (Courier photo by Loleta Connell)

South Loup Bobcat Boys Runner-Up at Overton Invite

Body
The South Loup Bobcat Boys track & field team brought home their first trophy of the season with the runner-up trophy at the April 19 Overton Invitational. The Bobcats really excelled in the field events, and of the field events, Coach Weverka's throwers excelled to another level. The performance of the day came in the discus as senior Jake Halstead launched the disc 144 feet, 3 inches, taking gold in the event and breaking the school record previously held by Grant Jones. Lance Jones has been improving throughout the year in the discus and threw his personal best in winning the third place medal with a throw of 39 feet. The shot put trio of Rio Remund, Jake Halstead and Lance Jones excelled as well, as they placed second, third and fifth, respectively.
