Bobcats Take Runner-Up Honors at Blevins Invitational
The South Loup boys scored well in the field events to begin the May 6 Blevins Invitational at Arnold, with pole vaulters Silas Cool, Jamie Tickle and Dawson Mason, taking gold, bronze and fourth place to score 20 points. Rio Remund and Lance Jones took third and fourth in the shot put and Jones took fourth in the discus. The boys ended the field events portion with 34 points.
The boys, much like the girls, dominated the 4 x 800 meter relay with Cache Gracey, Trey Connell, Logan Recoy and Cool running their season best in the event. Unfortunately, Gracey was forced to withdraw from the meet partway through due to illness, but other runners seized the opportunity to perform and kept the Bobcats in the running. The boys were led by Cool and Recoy who both had a big day, with Cool winning three gold medals during the meet, and Recoy winning two.
The relays ended the day for the Bobcats as Kaden Paulsen, A.J. Starr, Ethan Furne, and Harper Johnson placed fifth in the 4 x 100 meter relay. The quartet of Remund, Johnson, Recoy and Cool took bronze in the 4 x 400 meter relay with a dynamic anchor leg by Cool.
The boys finished the day in second place to North Platte St. Pat's. Coach Chesley said that the boys are ready, if they can stay healthy, for the district meet on May 12 at Southern Valley.
