The Schreyer Memorial Monument located northwest of Callaway on the river road was dedicated Sunday afternoon, Sept. 26. The rose colored marble monument was erected by descendants of the pioneer family and includes a historical background of the family.

Adults interested in an eight-week pottery class beginning in October at Callaway School are invited to an organizational meeting on Oct. 6 in the art room.

Instructor will be Mrs. Agnes Swathel.

The Callaway chapter of the Future Homemakers of America held its first meeting Sept. 17. The FHSers plan to show films and supervise a district session concerning teenage marriage and related birth defects.

The NIMDA computer virus has shut down Callaway Public School’s computer network since it struck last week. School business instructor and resident computer expert Bob Keeney estimates 60-70 percent of the school’s computers are infected with the virus and each must be scanned and cleaned with a special anti-virus program.

The fifth grade Sunday School class of the Callaway United Methodist Church wanted to express their concern for the people of New York City following the tragic event on Sept. 11. They collected chocolate “kisses” and “hugs” from Callaway residents to be sent to rescue workers.

20 YEARS AGO:

Mary Ridder, Jill Kulp, Carla Kimball, Brenda Still, and Betsy Spanel attended a HomeTown Competitiveness Academy at Chadron State College last week. They were among about 50 people from nine communities who spent three days on the campus.

Dr. Kenneth Loper and his wife, Melanie, were welcomed to the community at the Callaway Good Samaritan Center Founders Day Picnic with a special cake in their honor. A little over 100 residents, staff, and guests were served at the event.
