Bobcat Golfers’ Schedule Eases Heading into Districts
South Loup’s golf team got to take a bit of a breather this past week as they golfed only one meet as opposed to three, the average for the past several weeks.
On May 5, the Bobcats went to the North Platte St. Pat’s Invitational at River’s Edge Golf Course in North Platte.
Colbi Smith continued his season of brilliance on the course, taking second on the day with his round of 79 over 18 holes. Joey Sallach finished the day with a 113 and Grant Hrupek ended his round of 18 with a 116.
The Bobcats will see one more regular season meet on May 11 when they head to Mullen for an 11 a.m. tee time at the Mullen Invitational.
“We are looking forward to the Mullen meet,” head golf coach Jarod Rush said. “In the past our kids have played well there. Not saying it’s an easy course, but there are no water hazards and very few trees.” Rush went on to say that in the past, the Bobcats have had some very good scores there and he hopes this tournament will help the team gain some additional confidence before the district meet.
The Bobcats won’t have a lot of time to marinate on the finish of that meet as they will shift their focus to the D-4 District Golf meet on May 16 at River’s Edge Golf Course in North Platte, and Rush said that should benefit the Bobcats.
“Playing River’s Edge should help us in districts,” he said. “I hope the kids can make it over there one more time before that meet. There are just lots of places to get in trouble on that course. For most of them, it was a learning experience. It’s a big course - the only 18-hole course we play. Hopefully our scores improve the second time we play it.”
The May 11 Mullen Invitational will tee off at 11 a.m., then, on May 16, the Bobcats will vie for a spot at the NSAA Class D State Golf Tournament when they compete in the D-4 District Golf Meet at River’s Edge Golf Course in North Platte.
