The JR Meyer Insurance Agency has been a staple in the Callaway community for decades, and third generation owner Zach Meyer emphasizes that though the name has changed, clients can expect the same hometown quality service they have always known.

Sisters Use Talents to Give Back

The Callaway United Methodist Church has a new pastor, and a welcoming new splash of color to greet all visitors and parishioners – thanks to teenage sisters. Angel Johnson, a junior, and Tiersa Johnson, a sophomore, are both students at Callaway High School and explained that they saw a need to refresh the large symbol in the concrete in front of their church and decided to do something about it.

4-H Results of 2024 Custer County Fair

The 2024 Custer County Fair is in the books and the rewards for all of the hard work by area 4-H and FFA members have been distributed. The Callaway/Arnold area was well represented at the fair, as this was the first year of the combined South Loup 4-H Club – a merger of the Tail Twisters and Western Riders clubs.

Deadline Sept. 30 for Rural Energy Grant/Loan Funding

Nebraska ag producers and small businesses have until Sept. 30 to apply for the latest funding round of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Energy for America Program, part of the Farm Bill providing grants and guaranteed loans for renewable energy systems or energy efficiency improvements.

Convicted Felon Voter Registrations Now in Hands of State Supreme Court

Secretary of State Bob Evnen announced this past week that an agenda item to consider restoring voting rights to individuals with felony convictions who registered to vote under LB53 was taken off the agenda of the Nebraska State of Nebraska Board of Pardons meeting. The request was made in light of the Nebraska Supreme Court’s acceptance of a case that challenges the constitutionality of Secretary Evnen’s instruction to cease voter registrations for those with felony convictions.

Colors Will Be Flying High Over Callaway This Weekend

This weekend the Village of Callaway will welcome hundreds of visitors for an annual event that has become a staple in central Nebraska – Kite Flight. It happens every Labor Day weekend at Foster Smith Field, four miles southeast of Callaway on Highway 40.
