Nebraska to be awarded $307 million by EPA

Governor Jim Pillen and the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy (NDEE) have announced the receipt of a sizeable grant that will help accelerate the state’s realization of value-added agriculture and the bioeconomy initiative. The grant, from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) totals $307 million – the largest federal grant ever awarded to NDEE.

It has also allowed agricultural development on marginal land with varying soil types and topography. Irrigated acres in Nebraska have increased from 3,998,000 acres (1960) to 9,378,462 acres (2022).

CUSTER COUNTY JAIL REPORT

Custer County Sheriff Dan Osmond reports there are six males and two females in the Custer County Jail as of July 22, 2024. Those being held and the charges against them are as follows: Cooper Thomas Brass - Booked Feb. 23, 2024, charged with procuring for a minor/mentally incompetent person and 1st degree sexual assault. Pretrial hearing is set for Sept. 19, 2024. Bond is set at $150,000.

Callaway District Hospital Hosts Health Fair

For the first time in nearly five years Callaway District Hospital hosted a Health Fair, and it was a great success. 'It just needed to be brought back to life,' said hospital CFO Cassie Penn. 'It's a great way to let people know the access they have to healthcare here.'
