Homeschool Co-op Opens Callaway Christian Academy

Giving parents an option when it comes to educating their children, is what Steve Sommer said motivated him to finally pull the trigger on something he has wanted to do for a long time - start a faith based school. n September, the families of 10 youngsters took advantage of the opportunity for an alternative school, and enrolled their kids in the Callaway Christian Academy. It is not technically a private school, but rather a cooperative of home schoolers.

All ballots in Custer County have been counted, and Election Commissioner Constance Gracey has released the official results of the 2022 midterm general election. Like several counties across the state, Custer had a respectable voter turnout for a midterm election. Of the 7,781 registered voters in the county, 4,524 cast a ballot resulting in a 58.14% voter turnout.

Thank you to everyone that helped out with and supported this year’s Callaway Kids Fall Carnival – we couldn’t have done it without your time, donations and support. Thank you to Kate and Gracie Brennan, Karla Pandorf, Georgia Guthrie and Doug and Mary Ann Boldt for their help setting up in the morning and thank you also to those that helped with clean-up after. Ballots have been cast in the 2022 midterm election, but it could be up to two weeks before final results are announced. While all of the Custer County races other than District 7 County Commissioner were decided in the primary in May, there were several local races of interest.

The Nebraska School Activities Association honored Callaway’s Ken Pitkin for his 40 years of service to Nebraska high school volleyball. Ken has refereed countless games and assisted at state tournaments throughout the past four decades. Thank you for your service Ken!
