The Callaway Board of Education met on Monday, Nov. 13, with a light agenda that moved the meeting pretty quickly. One of the action items on the agenda was the approval of the second reading of a group of policies relating to school board functions and business.

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will release adult rooster pheasants in 18 wildlife management areas prior to the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. The WMAs are: Arnold Trupp WMA (Morrill County), Arrowhead WMA (Gage County), Bordeaux WMA (Dawes County), Branched Oak WMA (Lancaster County), Cornhusker (Hall County), George D.

Get Ready for Christmas Around Callaway! This year’s event is set for Wednesday, Dec. 6 from 4-8 p.m.

The Callaway Good Life Center hosted a special celebration last week as they invited family members to join their loved ones residing at CGLC for a Thanksgiving feast. The kitchen staff, with a little help from other staff members, spent hours preparing the dinner complete with turkey, ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole, corn, dinner rolls…and of course, pie.

The Callaway Board of Education is preparing to make a big decision that will impact the school district for years to come, the hiring of a new superintendent. In a statement released to the district patrons last week, the board stated, “We will approach the search process with attention to each detail necessary to ensure a successful hire. It is our goal to hire a quality and capable administrator to lead the district forward in the years to come.”

The cast and crew of the Callaway High School One Act team have been practicing since since the beginning of the school year, and had their first competition on Monday, Nov. 13. They performed for the public in Callaway on Tuesday Nov. 7, in preparation for the season and are gearing up for conference on Nov. 14. The team is coached by Hannah Beck.

An Ecumenical Church Service will be held at the United Methodist Church on Tuesday, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m.

Callaway Public School hosted a special Veteran's Day program on Friday morning, Nov. 10. Pictured above are the local veterans in attendance at the program, representing different branches of the military and various areas of service.

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is working with the Custer County Sheriff’s Office to make sure you stay safe on the roads throughout the holiday weekend.
