Saying Goodbye Is Hard To Do

Body
Patty Loveless sang the lyrics, “How can I help you to say goodbye? It's okay to hurt and it's okay to cry. Come let me hold you, and I will try. How can I help you to say goodbye?” These words have resonated with me and resurfaced in my heart in moments of difficult goodbyes.

Rabbits Truly Live Up to Their Reputation

Body
Our neighbors share a rabbit with us. The rabbit is a female eastern cottontail. Female cottontails have a home territory that is just about the size of our neighbor’s and our yards put together. From time to time, males come to visit. Of course, 28 days after his visit she gives birth to a half dozen little bunnies. Shortly thereafter another male, or the same one, comes visiting again, and 28 days later another litter. This can happen seven times through the year hence the promiscuous reputation of rabbits.

Providing Services To Meet Community Needs

Body
The Village of Callaway seems to always be busy, with businesses and organizations dedicated to creating a community that offers the best quality of life to all its residents. This time of year can be especially difficult for many; from financial hardships to loneliness. Developing programs, creating welcoming places to gather, and a true sense of community for all are not just great ideas - they are ideals that have been implemented within this town.
The Callaway Senior Center provides a gathering place for monthly potlucks and various events, community meetings, family reunions, and receptions. A grant recently awarded by the AARP has allowed the center to upgrade its capabilities to support even more functions. (Courier file photo by Ellen Mortensen)
