Spotlight Is On CHS One Act Team

As fall sports season is winding down it is time for the fine arts department to shine, as the One Act team begins their competitive season. The team has been practicing for the past three months and participated in their first event of the year at Ord on Monday.

Two elderly women were out driving in a large car both could barely see over the dashboard. As they were cruising along, they came to an intersection. The stoplight was red, but they just went on through. The woman in the passenger seat thought to herself, “I must be losing it. I could have sworn we just went through a red light.”

Upland Bird Season Now Open

Nebraska’s pheasant, quail, and partridge seasons opened on Oct. 28. Historically, hunters swinging on game and firing outside of their safe zones of fire have been the primary cause of upland bird hunting incidents. The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission reminds hunters to make sure safety is at the forefront of every hunt by following the four basic rules of firearm safety: Treat every firearm as if it is loaded. Always point the muzzle of your firearm in a safe direction.

Date Change For Annual Veteran’s Soup Supper

Make plans now to join American Legion Auxiliary Unit 59 of Callaway for their annual fundraiser soup and dessert supper to be held Nov. 12 from 5-7 p.m. at the Callaway Community Center. This is a date change that will allow our Veterans and their families the opportunity to attend various Veteran's Day programs and festivities held in out-of-town venues.

Anyone in Custer County needing a late-night supper after a ball game or a quick lunch on a tight schedule now has one less option. The Broken Bow McDonald’s which has been a staple within the community and county for the past 20 years, has closed its doors permanently.
