The American Legion Auxiliary monthly meeting started at 5:00 p.m. at the Callaway Legion Hall on December 18, 2023. We did not have our President, our Vice President or our Financial Officer in attendence. We that were present decided to have an unofficial meeting to go over things that needed discussed, as the next time we would meet would be in January.

The Callaway Community Foundation Fund has announced the date and theme for their annual fundraiser Gala. The 'Maroon & Gold Gala' will be held on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024 at the Callaway Community Center.

As we ring in a new year, we at the Courier wanted to take a moment to remind you of some of the stories that made our headlines in 2023. It was a big year in Callaway with lots of exciting things happening.

Country Partners will host a retirement party for Jim Dodge on Friday, Dec. 22, from 2-4 p.m. at the Callaway Agronomy building. Jim has a combined total of 44 years of service to this area. The public is invited to stop by and thank Jim for his years of dedicated service to the Callaway area ag community and to wish him well in his future endeavors. Refreshments will be served.

Are you fixing up your property? You may need to acquire a building permit! What projects require a building permit?

If you plan to build, move, expand or structurally alter any building or structure within Callaway or the 1-mile zone surrounding Callaway you will need a building permit. This would include: - Building or changing fencing - Putting up a carport - Building a new accessory building (ie. garage, ADU, etc.)

The Village of Oconto hosted a special Christmas caroling event on Sunday, Dec. 10.

As always this will be a fun event featuring a social hour, supper, silent auction and live auction designed to 'Celebrate the Old and the New'.

Funds raised from the Gala will benefit projects and investments in the Callaway Community.

The Custer County Courthouse reminds area residents that all offices will be closed on Monday, Dec. 25, and Monday, Jan. 1, for the holidays. The offices will be open during regular business hours on Dec. 22, and Dec. 26.
