Legion Auxiliary Makes Plans For Family Day And Memorial Day
The American Legion Auxiliary monthly meeting started at 5:00 p.m. at the Callaway Legion Hall on April 15, 2024. President Jane Lashley called the meeting to order. Chaplain Joyce read the prayer. We said the Pledge of Allegiance, sang the Star Spangled Banner, and recited our Auxiliary Preamble. Our secretary Eileen read the minutes from the last meeting and they were approved as read. MaryAnn gave the financial report and we are doing well for this year.
MaryAnn had a bill for envelopes for mailing off the big Poppy Posters and another item we need a larger envelope for. Joyce made a motion to pay for this bill and Deondra seconded this motion.
The Central Nebraska Veterans Home in Kearney is looking for people to help serve pie and ice cream to the residents at 1:30 on April 16, for Spring Tea.
Our History Book and Jo’s narrative for the history book will need to be mailed to State. Jo will finish this so that it can be mailed.
Friday evening, April 26th, will be the celebration of the American Legion Family at the Legion. We are honoring the families of all servicemen and of course the serviceman too. The families gave much for having their serviceman called to serve, we want to say thank you to all. The get-together starts at 5 p.m. and goes to 7 p.m. We will serve snacks. This will also be in our paper to remind everyone.
We need to have the school pick out a day when the Auxiliary can come to school to pass out certificates for Poppy Posters and the essays the students worked so hard to finish. We will also pass out the supplies which some classes have asked for.
Memorial Day weekend is May 25, 26, and 27th. May 24 is Poppy Day and if it should rain our alternate day is the 27th. On the 24th we will get the memorial wreaths ready for presentation.
Jo motioned to give $50 to the after-prom party, Callaway and Arnold will have their prom together here at Callaway this year.
With many changes to our upcoming year, we have voted to change the day and time of our regular meetings. The Auxiliary as of August will start meeting on the second Monday of each month and the time will return to 6:30 p.m. on that day. This was a motion by MaryAnn and seconded by Cora and it received a unanimous vote of approval.
Our meeting was finished for the evening so Joyce read the prayer and Jane adjourned the meeting.
Sincerely Eileen Wilson, Secretary
