Delayed action items have been the theme of the Nebraska State Board of Education meetings for the first quarter of 2026. Community Achievement Plan In January, the Planning and Evaluation Committee recommended no action on the approval of the Community Achievement Plan (CAP) for the Learning Communities of Douglas and Sarpy Counties.

With many public schools now contracting with food services such as Lunchtime Solutions to provide meals for students, made-from-scratch dishes that so many of us enjoyed at school in our youth have become a thing of the past. Except in Callaway.

After Wildfire: Livestock Care, Documentation, and Recovery for Nebraska Cattle Operations

Recent wildfires in Nebraska have left many cattle operations facing urgent management decisions. Once humans are safe, producers should focus on three priorities: stabilizing livestock through health checks and access to clean water and feed, documenting losses and engaging with insurers and/ or assistance programs, and developing a grazing recovery plan that protects rangeland health going into the next grazing season.

Bobcat Golfers Prepare to Swing Into Action

Jeff Cole is entering his second season as head coach of the South Loup golf team. Prior to that, Cole was an assistant to Coach Jarod Rush for three seasons. Joining Coach Cole on the course again this year will be Assistant Coach Garrett Hrupek.

Brian Gardner, guidance counselor at Callaway High School, was announced as the Outstanding Young Educator during the Broken Bow Jaycees Awards Banquet. There were 105 persons in attendance with Monte Griffin as the guest speaker. A portable home breathing machine has been donated to the Callaway Hospital by the Parker Calvin family in memory of Stella Wilson. Also, a beautiful and much-needed coat rack was made and donated by Bill Street.
