Guthard Part of Callaway LEADership

Being selected to be part of Nebraska’s prestigious LEAD program is an honor and a great opportunity for growth and networking. Several individuals who have been part of the program have called Callaway home, including one of the members of this year’s class, Stacey Guthard.

50 YEARS AGO: At the February meeting of the Chamber of Commerce, the People Improving Callaway (PIC) committee was established, and the first project of the downtown improvement plan is now underway. Chamber President Dale Farmer, Robert Pitkin, and Jim Smith painted the old Lamb and Stephenson Hardware Store.

Rural Accident Results in Death of Callaway Man

On Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2026, at around 6:44 p.m., Custer County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to Rye Valley Road, west of Callaway, after Custer County Communications received an automated crash detection alert. On scene, deputies located a single vehicle that had been involved in a rollover crash. Deputies located Marland J. Peterson, an 81-year-old Callaway man, who was found to be the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle. Peterson was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Time For K of C Fish Fries The Knights of Columbus are once again hosting their annual Fish Fries throughout the Lenten season. The scheduled fries will be held at the following locations: March 6- Callaway Community Center March 13- Anselmo Fire Hall March 20- Sargent Community Center March 27- Ansley Community Center All Fish Fries will be from 5:30 p.m.

Alice (Hagler) Conner has lived her entire life in the Callaway/Arnold area, and it has been a long and happy life. Alice was recently joined by friends and family as she celebrated her 100th birthday at her home in the Callaway Good Life Center.
