Superintendent Corner: The ‘Dogdays’ of The School Year

Body
Welcome to February! I am sure all the spring calvers were thrilled to here Phil promise us six more weeks of winter. At the school, we had to make sure we had all the necessary contacts to be able to call a snow day. It has now been 11 months since we have had a snow day or a late start. I think our kids feel like we are somehow conspiring with Mother Nature against them. In this month’s corner, I want to touch on a topic that is prevalent to schools this time of year, every year - management of time and “burn out.”

For The Love of ART

The Bible says we have all been given special gifts and talents. And while some of us spend a good portion of our lives trying to discover just what those are, for one Callaway High School student, his talent is very clear.
Callaway High School senior Caleb Furrow recently had his artwork selected for a prestigious exhibition at Hastings College. Caleb says he particularly enjoys drawing people with a lot of expression, much like the old cowboy piece he is shown with here. He plans to attend Hastings College next fall on an art scholarship. BLAST FROM THE PAST

50 YEARS AGO: Casket flags have been turned over to the local American Legion Posts by relatives and friends of a deceased veteran to be displayed on Memorial Day or any other day they see fit. The Callaway American Legion is planning to use these for Rose Hill Cemetery and will use them for their Bicentennial Project. The poles will be furnished by the American Legion or anyone who wishes to donate one.
Local artist Mariel Klingbeil presents her oil painting entitled “Visit With a Doctor” to Callaway District Hospital. Hospital Administrator Marvin Neth accepted the gift.
