50 YEARS AGO:

The Callaway area received a lot of moisture over the long July 4th weekend. The first rain came Friday morning when the community got about 2.25 inches of rain in about 45 minutes. Early Saturday morning, another .80 fell, making a total of 3.05 inches.

A project currently underway by the historical society is a file being made to name those persons buried at Rose Hill Cemetery. No such record exists. The cemetery received its name because the area was covered with wild roses when it was being considered for a cemetery site.

Governor Mike Johanns announced that the Village of Oconto will receive $665,000 in Community Development Block Grants to help rebuild the community hall and repair many damaged homes. Oconto was the scene of a Halloween tornado that destroyed much of the west side of Main Street, as well as damaging or destroying homes around town.
