With rising prices for school supplies, back-to-school shopping can sure take a bite out of budgets! Custer County Salvation Army wants to help with that.

The Salvation Army will distribute free backpacks and school supplies at their annual Back-to-School Giveaway on Monday, July 20, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Broken Bow Municipal Building.

Custer County students from pre-school through 12th grade are welcome to attend, according to project chairman, Debby Moninger. Students will be able to select backpacks and school supplies while supplies last. All children must be accompanied by an adult, and doors will not open until 4:30 p.m.

The Salvation Army has been sponsoring the Back-to-School Giveaway for more than 20 years. This event is aimed at helping Custer County families who otherwise may not be able to cover the cost of back-to-school expenses.

Backpacks are provided by the Omaha office of the Salvation Army. Funds for school supplies come from the Cliff Luther Endowment, bell ringing donations, and community contributions.

Anyone who would like to donate supplies or wants to help with the project can contact Debby Moninger, 870-2882, or Carol Allen, 870-4397.
