As we celebrate America’s 250th anniversary this Fourth of July, let's take this opportunity to reflect on the principles that shaped our nation and the responsibility we all share in preserving them.

The founding of our country was built on constitutional government, the rule of law, and individual liberty. Our Founding Fathers understood that government exists to serve the people primarily by protecting their individual rights; rights endowed by our Creator, not the government. The path to independence was not easy. Those who helped establish our nation did not have universal or unanimous support and faced criticism, uncertainty, and opposition. They risked their livelihoods, reputations, and futures because they believed the principles they stood for were worth defending. Their perseverance and commitment to principle remind us that protecting freedom requires dedication and the courage to stand firm, even when doing so may not be understood or championed by the popular majority.

Individual liberty and property rights are fundamental to a free society, forming the framework that allows families, businesses, and communities to thrive. The freedoms we honor on this Fourth of July allow us to pursue opportunity, support our families, and keep what we earn.

The Fourth of July is also a time to slow down and enjoy family, friends, and neighbors. Whether attending a local parade, gathering for a barbecue, watching fireworks, or simply spending time together, these moments reflect what makes our communities strong and our country special. They are a reminder that independence is not only about history, but about the values we live every day and the people who share them with us.

On this milestone anniversary, may we remember the courage of our founders and the responsibility each generation carries to protect the principles that have guided our nation.
