All-Conference Basketball Selections

The Mid-Nebraska Activities Conference (MNAC) has released the names of the all-conference basketball selections for boys and girls basketball for 2025. The South Loup girls’ team has one selection, while the boys’ team has three players named to the list.

Last Thursday it was the lunar eclipse and now today (Thursday the 20th) it is the Vernal Equinox, also called the Spring Equinox. As most know, this is the time when the number of minutes of daylight equals the number of minutes of darkness, at least on the equator. For those of us in this area of Nebraska, because we are a long way north of the equator, the “equinox” was Monday the 17th at which time the sun rose at 7:49 A.M. and set at 7:49 P.M.

American Legion Auxiliary March Meeting Minutes

The Callaway American Legion Auxiliary’s monthly meeting started at 6:30 p.m. at the Callaway Legion Hall on March 10, 2025. President Jane Lashley called the meeting to order. Chaplin Joyce Brestel started the meeting with a prayer. We then followed our President with the Pledge of Allegiance, sang the Star Spangled Banner and recited the Auxiliary Preamble. The meeting began with the secretary reading the minutes of our Feb. 10 meeting. MaryAnn gave the financial report and everything was good.

Board Approves Principal Contracts

The Callaway Public Schools administrative team got a nod of approval from the school board at the March 10 regular board meeting, as the contracts for High School Principal/Activities Director Heath Birkel and Elementary Principal/Special Education Director Brittany Jesseph were renewed for the 2025-26 school year. Both administrators also unanimously were given a raise.
The Callaway Board of Education met Monday evening where discussion included review of policies, finances, property purchases, and contract renewals among other agenda items. Board members, from left, are: Liana Hrupek, Rhonda Pandorf, Board President Mike Reiff, Superintendent JD Furrow, Rebecca Eggleston, Jim Phelps, and TR Anderson.
