The Callaway Board of Education met for their regular monthly meeting on Jan. 13, with the first order of business being the election of officers for 2025. That process went a whole lot smoother this year than last, with no opposition to the 2024 officers remaining in their roles.

Last week I talked about my son’s encounter with a mountain lion south of town. Mountain lions are one of two apex predators that were in this area prior to Nebraska becoming a state. The scientific name for the mountain lion is “Puma concolor”. “Puma” is Latin and translates as a large cat and “concolor” refers to the fact that it is a uniform color.

A Callaway Community Blood Drive will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 5, from 9 a.m.

Back when Alex, my youngest son, was a senior in high school he took his friend Peter out to the river winter camping. It was Peter’s first experience sleeping in the out-of-doors and he was doing so in January and without a tent.

The Gothenburg Health Foundation and local community partners invite men and women to the Ag Health & Safety Event, a free day of education and support for the agricultural community. The event will be held Tuesday, Feb. 4, at the Dayspring Bank Event Center in Gothenburg from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with lunch and cocktail hour provided.

The Callaway American Legion Auxiliary monthly meeting started at 6:30 at the Callaway Legion Hall on Dec. 9, 2024. Our President Jane Lashley conducted our meeting. The meeting was called to order with our Chaplain Joyce Brestel reading our prayer.
