Shotgun Annie's Permanently Closes

Body
Shotgun Annie’s in Callaway hosted its 8th annual Little Wranglers Toy Drive last month which concluded with a party on Dec. 15. You might say it was the last “hoora” for the business. Owner Candace Burnett announced in a Facebook post that Sunday, Dec. 29, was the final day of business for the restaurant and bar.

YEAR IN REVIEW: Headlines of 2024

Body
As we ring in a new year, we at the Courier wanted to take a moment to remind you of some of the stories that made our headlines in 2024. It was a big year in Callaway with lots of exciting things happening. This week we reflected back on the first half of 2024, and we conclude our look back in next week’s edition.
The top story in Callaway in 2024 was most likely the completion of the community's new swimming pool. Members of the community, the lifeguards and pool staff, Chamber members and Village Board members joined in the opening day celebration as Lawrence Paulsen - Chair of the pool committee - cut the ribbon on June 1. Merry Christmas From 4th Grade

Body
Sending greeting cards at Christmas time is a tradition for many people, and the Callaway Courier hosted a contest that put a twist on that custom. We asked students in Mrs. Nicole Rush’s fourth-grade class to pick a local business, and then draw a Christmas greeting card depicting that business.
Callaway's 4th grade class drew business greeting card ads for the Courier and received a prize for their efforts. From left are Pryce Warren, awarded $5; Emmit Quitmeyer, 2nd place $15; Piper Hoesel, 1st place $20; and Raelyn Williams, 3rd place $10. Also pictured is teacher Nichole Rush.
