The American Legion Auxiliary Unit #59 of Callaway recently donated two patriotic children's books to the Nigel Sprouse Memorial Library. This project helps the ALA achieve their purpose of promoting Americanism. It is almost “Game Time!” By the time you read this article we will have already had a couple of varsity contests to start the year. In this month’s Superintendent’s Corner, I am going to share a little bit of my philosophy about being an interscholastic activity fan. I have been a lover of sports for as long as I can remember and I have had the opportunity to play, coach, and cheer for both winning and losing teams. If you have read this far, I am sure you are thinking that we are going to retrace every ra-ra talk about sportsmanship you have ever heard. While I do think sportsmanship is very important, that is not the direction I am really heading.

My favorite season is officially here! Fall, yes - but I’m talking specifically about football season. I cannot remember ever not being a football fan.

Callaway Public Schools Superintendent JD Furrow was accompanied by four members of the CPS Board of Education at the Aug. 12 meeting of the Callaway Village Board.

50 YEARS AGO: Callaway and Oconto fire units assisted in bringing under control five fires triggered by an electrical storm early the morning of Aug. 22, six miles northwest and three miles west of Oconto.

This weekend marks the 34th annual event in Callaway that brings families together and fills the sky with color. The Kite Flight happens every Labor Day weekend at Foster Smith Field, four miles southeast of Callaway on Highway 40. This year’s event will be Aug.

Two new policies appeared on the agenda of the Callaway Board of Education’s Aug. 11 meeting for second read. One of them, the policy regarding acceptable attire at school, had the board split down the middle. The other proposed policy met with unanimous approval and no public input.
