August 'Yard of the Month' Winners Announced

The Callaway Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the winners of the August Yard of the Month - Doug and Karen Snider! Their beautiful yard is full of charm, thanks to Karen’s handmade raised beds. She said she’s already planning to add even more next summer. The American Legion Auxiliary Unit #59 of Callaway recently donated two patriotic children's books to the Nigel Sprouse Memorial Library. This project helps the ALA achieve their purpose of promoting Americanism. Superintendent’s Corner: Lessons Learned

It is almost “Game Time!” By the time you read this article we will have already had a couple of varsity contests to start the year. In this month’s Superintendent’s Corner, I am going to share a little bit of my philosophy about being an interscholastic activity fan. I have been a lover of sports for as long as I can remember and I have had the opportunity to play, coach, and cheer for both winning and losing teams. If you have read this far, I am sure you are thinking that we are going to retrace every ra-ra talk about sportsmanship you have ever heard. While I do think sportsmanship is very important, that is not the direction I am really heading.

Kite Flight This Weekend

This weekend marks the 34th annual event in Callaway that brings families together and fills the sky with color. The Kite Flight happens every Labor Day weekend at Foster Smith Field, four miles southeast of Callaway on Highway 40. This year’s event will be Aug.

Board Approves Policy Banning Cell Phones During School

Two new policies appeared on the agenda of the Callaway Board of Education’s Aug. 11 meeting for second read. One of them, the policy regarding acceptable attire at school, had the board split down the middle. The other proposed policy met with unanimous approval and no public input.
The Callaway school board voted to approve a policy prohibiting students from using cell phones and electronic communication devices during the school day.
