The final step in the process of changing ownership of a Callaway business has been completed. At their regular monthly meeting on July 22, the Callaway Village Board unanimously approved a request for a liquor license for Sand Creek Bar, formerly Henry’s Bar.

50 YEARS AGO: Over 80 persons from Callaway, Arnold, Stapleton, Oconto, and Eddyville attended a meeting at the Callaway fire hall in a fight to keep the Kearney railroad branch open between Stapleton and Arnold. Larry Mowrey of Callaway Ag Service presided over the meeting.

With the help of our amazing community and the Custer County Foundation, the Callaway Good Life Center was able to raise $18,731.82 during the Breakfast Fundraiser held in conjunction with the 2025 Pioneer Picnic. These generous donations will be put towards the new building plans. Transportation Available to Nearly Anywhere

The office of the Callaway District Hospital public transit service has a new home. The transportation program was implemented by the hospital three years ago, and CEO Brett Eggleston says many local people still don’t understand the full scope of the services the program provides.

Special Ceremony to Honor Local Medal of Honor Recipient

On Saturday afternoon, July 26, members of the Robert D. Booker family gathered at Rose Hill Cemetery near Callaway for a special Nebraska Medal of Honor Recipient Wreath presentation. They were joined by several American Legion Post #59 members, American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) Unit #59 members, and other Legion and Auxiliary members from neighboring communities who were paying their respects to a local serviceman.
