Search is on For New County Supervisor
Custer County District 3 County Supervisor Barry Fox announced his resignation from the board during the Nov. 12 regular meeting, effective Dec. 1. He shared with the board that his reason for resigning is based on the time commitment involved, which he does not feel like he can continue with his growing business.
County Clerk Kelly Jacobsen, County Attorney Steven Bowers, and County Treasurer Sheri Bryant have now begun the interview process to find a replacement to fulfill the remainder of Fox’s term on the board. The committee has 45 days from the effective date of his resignation to fill the position.
The committee plans to advertise the vacancy and accept applications or submitted names from the public for review. Anyone interested in being considered to fill the seat must reside within the 3rd district, which encompasses the western half of Broken Bow. Fox’s term formally runs through 2026, and with next year being an election year the appointee will need to register as the incumbent candidate by Feb. 15, with any challengers to the seat registering as candidates by March 1.
Also during the Nov. 12 meeting, District 6 Supervisor Lynn Longmore attended a Mutual Aid meeting where County Emergency Manager Mark Rempe discussed the new tower being installed, which she said should improve coverage in the area. Longmore and District 2 Supervisor Tammy Kleeb shared that they have also been in contact with Broken Bow City Administrator David Schmidt and Custer Economic Development Corporation Director Scotti Ross regarding the recycling center. Schmidt indicated he would work with surrounding communities on ideas for funding the center, while Ross is looking into grants to continue center funding.
Among other actions by the board, a committee was formed to review and set salaries for elected Custer County Officials for the next year. The next meeting of the Custer County Board of Supervisors is scheduled for November 25 at the Custer County Courthouse in Broken Bow.
