Field Day Next Week Near Broken Bow
Producers can get an up-close look at 14 warm-season forage varieties and compare their performance side by side during the Warm Season Forage Field Day on Thursday, Aug. 27, near Broken Bow.
The free field day, hosted by Star Seed, will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and feature a tour of replicated trial plots containing 14 warm-season forage varieties. Attendees will learn about the varieties while discussing agronomic considerations with Nebraska Extension and industry specialists.
The program will feature Nicolas Cafáro La Menza, Nebraska Extension cropping systems specialist and assistant professor in the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, hose research focuses on improving crop productivity and resource-use efficiency. Cafáro La Menza will present results from two years of on-farm research on summer forages conducted in the area and walk the 14-variety trial with attendees to discuss the forages and cropping systems considerations.
The trial plot tour and Extension presentation will take place from 10 a.m. to noon. Following the field tour, attendees are invited to a hosted lunch and reception from noon to 2 p.m. at Kinkaider Brewing Co. in Broken Bow.
