* The photo below appeared in the Dec. 22, 2005, edition of the Callaway Courier. Reindeer Hayley Stryker, Rebecca Still, and Michaela Waverka are baffled because Santa somehow fell off his sleigh. It was not until penguins found him that the big night was saved in the elementary school production of “The Penguins that Saved Christmas” on Dec. 6, 2005.

The boys' basketball holiday tournament will be held in Brady on Dec. 29-30. Teams that will participate will be Callaway, Brady, Wallace, and Oconto. Residents are reminded to keep all dogs chained or penned, as Callaway citizens have been complaining of overturned garbage cans and strewn garbage. In the future, all dogs, large and small, will be picked up, held, and a fee charged for their detention. - Marshal Bennett.

Russ Baker of Callaway is a chainsaw carver, a form of folk art that is growing in popularity in the United States. His main product is fanciful bears, and Baker said he carves 500-1,000 of them to sell every year.

While some are sold locally, most are sold in Colorado where they are popular with tourists.

Callaway placed eight of nine wrestlers and took third place in the Wilcox-Hildreth Wrestling Invitational. Senior Kyle Berg continues to be a man on a mission. He is rated sixth in Class D and remains undefeated at 9-0.
