From Puerto Rico we returned to Louisiana to explore New Orleans for two days before finally embarking a cruise we were to have taken in 2020, but well, you know, COVID. This was our third trip to the Crescent City and by now we have our favorite places and rituals to observe.

As of Jan. 30, there are seven males, one female, and no others in Custer County Jail.

The Callaway American Legion Auxiliary is a very busy group of ladies. While they focus much of their attention and efforts on supporting veterans and their families, the Auxiliary is also heavily involved in community service.

The Nigel Sprouse Memorial Library is hosting their Annual Soup and Pie Supper at the Callaway Community Center on Sunday, Jan. 29.

The Ridder Hereford Ranch will host their Annual Bull & Heifer Sale on Thursday, Feb. 2, at the Ridder Ranch, west of Callaway. Sale time is set for 1 p.m. For auction details and a complete sale catalog, visit ridderranch.com.

The Callaway Chamber of Commerce is hosting their “Celebrate Callaway” event on Sunday, Feb. 26, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Callaway Community Center. Chamber members are asked to bring a main dish and salad or dessert. The Chamber will provide a main dish along with the potluck options. The whole community is invited to join in!

Daycare is an issue that impacts the entire community. When parents cannot find quality child care, they are unable to work to provide the goods and services needed for that community. Whether it is the nursing home, hospital, restaurant or school - employees need child care options.
