National Sorghum Month Highlights Strong Future

June is National Sorghum Month, a time to recognize Nebraska sorghum growers and highlight the crop’s contributions to agriculture across the state and the United States. “Nebraska’s sorghum industry continues to benefit from the dedication of growers, researchers and industry partners who are helping move the crop forward,” said Tracy Zink, chair of Nebraska Sorghum Producers.

Connell Inducted Into Cowboy Hall of Fame

ELLEN MORTENSEN , WITH EXCERPTS FROM MIDWEST MESSENGER Sandhills cowboy Sam Connell of Arnold, well known to many in this area as “Grandpa Sam”, was inducted into the Nebraska Sandhills Cowboy Hall of Fame on Saturday, June 5, in Valentine. Sam will turn 86-years-young on June 18, and was born in his grandparents’ home in southwest Thomas County.

The Callaway Aquatic Center is open for the season! Hours are noon to 8 p.m. daily, with 5-6 p.m. reserved for adult-only swim. Callaway residents may use the pool for no fee. The cost for nonvillage residents is $3 for children aged 4 and under, and $5 for ages 5 and over. Individual passes are $50, and a family pass is $100.
