Board Approves Classified Wages And New Teacher

As another school year begins to wind down, there are plenty of student accomplishments to celebrate. At the April meeting of the Callaway Board of Education a few of those accolades were acknowledged, including the 10 National FCCLA qualifiers and the state speech champion, along with those who participated in State FFA. It is a positive way to begin each board meeting that has become a standard at CPS.

Over the past couple of months, Syndicate Publishing has handed off our Cozad Local and Minden Courier publications to new owners. Thankfully, local owners, backed by the support of local economic development and chamber organizations, were able to step in to ensure those communities continued to have a local newspaper.

Wildfires are an ever-present danger in Nebraska, but most everyone seems to agree that this year has been exceptionally volatile. Extremely dry conditions in conjunction with above-average temperatures and strong winds have created a recipe for disaster - and last week the consequences of that mixture landed right in our backyard.
Sara Hogg snapped this photo from her yard as volunteer firefighters fought to save her home. They lost the garden shed, but are very grateful that their house still stands.

ALCC Hosts Compost Days May 2 and May 3

Adams Land & Cattle (ALCC) is excited to be sharing their nutrient-rich and organic compost with local gardeners during their seventh annual Adams Compost Days. Custer County residents are encouraged to bring buckets and stop at their loadout facility, just north of the South Lot entrance on Highway 21.

Callaway Hospital Gala Brings Community Together, Raises Support for Local Healthcare

The Callaway Hospital District Foundation welcomed 200 guests on April 18 for its Legacy of Care Gala, an evening centered on community, connection, and support for local healthcare. Held at the Arnold Community Center, the event brought together neighbors, businesses, and friends from across the area to celebrate the importance of keeping quality care close to home.
A large crowd gathered at the Arnold Community Center for a special fundraising event for the Callaway Hospital District, which also services the community of Arnold. More than $56,000 was raised at the event.

Officers Named For Callaway Community Foundation

The Callaway Community Foundation Fund committee elected new officers in their monthly meeting on Monday, April 20. President is Lucy Kimball McWhirter, Vice-President is Jenn Hickenbottom, Treasurer is Levi Griffith and Secretary is Michael Reiff.
