With the primary election now just shy of five weeks away, Nebraska Secretary of State Bob Evnen has certified the statewide ballot, and the candidates are in place. While there are not many contested races on the local level, there are a couple at the state and federal levels that could be interesting.

Callaway Preschool Celebrates 10th Year

Preschool classes are held at Callaway Public School Monday through Friday, with a morning session from 8:05 - 11:05 a.m. and an afternoon session from 12:15 to 3:44 p.m. Teacher for the preschool program is Jennifer Hickenbottom, and Elementary Principal Brittany Jesseph oversees grades pre-K through sixth.

Callaway was officially recognized as a Bicentennial Community in ceremonies held in the Callaway High School gymnasium on April 4. Forrest Cook, chairman of the Callaway Village Board, was presented with a large flag bearing the logo of the American Revolutionary Bicentennial Commission.

Irrigated Annual Forage Options

Whether it is the possibility of drought or loss of pasture because of wildfire, some producers are considering using irrigated annual forages to bolster their grazing or hay supplies. For spring or cool-season annual forages, we are in the planting period of late March to early April.

Heading To Nationals!

On Monday, March 16, members of the Callaway High School FCCLA Chapter presented their STAR projects to a full house of family, friends, and community members in the school auditorium. The presentation was in preparation for the contest, with a trip to the National Convention on the line.

SLS Celebrates Five Years of Mental Wellness

In a continuous effort to provide the best in health and wellness care for people of all ages, Callaway District Hospital began partnering with the Senior Life Solutions program in 2021 to offer mental health services for the area’s older adults. On March 19, the community came together to celebrate this specialized care at the Callaway medical facility, nearly five years to the day from the program’s launch.

Delayed action items have been the theme of the Nebraska State Board of Education meetings for the first quarter of 2026. Community Achievement Plan In January, the Planning and Evaluation Committee recommended no action on the approval of the Community Achievement Plan (CAP) for the Learning Communities of Douglas and Sarpy Counties.
