Shotgun Annie's Permanently Closes

Body Shotgun Annie’s in Callaway hosted its 8th annual Little Wranglers Toy Drive last month which concluded with a party on Dec. 15. You might say it was the last “hoora” for the business. Owner Candace Burnett announced in a Facebook post that Sunday, Dec.

YEAR IN REVIEW: Headlines of 2024

Body As we ring in a new year, we at the Courier wanted to take a moment to remind you of some of the stories that made our headlines in 2024. It was a big year in Callaway with lots of exciting things happening.
The top story in Callaway in 2024 was most likely the completion of the community's new swimming pool. Merry Christmas From 4th Grade

Body Sending greeting cards at Christmas time is a tradition for many people, and the Callaway Courier hosted a contest that put a twist on that custom. We asked students in Mrs.
Callaway's 4th grade class drew business greeting card ads for the Courier and received a prize for their efforts. Busy Meeting For American Legion Auxiliary

Body The Callaway American Legion Auxiliary monthly meeting started at 6:30 at the Callaway Legion Hall on Dec. 9, 2024. President Jane Lashley was not present, so our Vice President Cora Belew conducted our meeting.

Custer County Jail Report

Body Custer County Sheriff Dan Osmond reports there were eight males and no female inmates in the Custer County Jail as of Dec. 20, 2024.

Blaze in Northern Custer County Claims a Life

Body Chase Christen, 40 years of age, of Broken Bow, passed away at Jennie M. Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow on Thursday, Dec. 19, due to an accident while helping neighbors move cattle to safety ahead of a large grass fire near Broken Bow.
Though the black and white photo doesn't show it, the lighter shade just above the horizon is the glowing red from the Round Valley fire that broke out northeast of Broken Bow last Thursday. In total the fire burned 2,800 acres, and a Custer County man lost his life trying to protect his neighbors. This photo was taken from several miles away by Jeanne Farritor-Catlett.

FFA Chapter Bestowed Memorial Gift

Body The Callaway FFA Chapter was recently notified that it is the recipient of a generous memorial donation. Carla Kimball made the presentation during the Callaway Board of Education meeting on Dec.
The CHS FFA Chapter performed well at the leadership development event at Sumner-Eddyville-Miller High School on Dec. 11, earning two blue and one red ribbon. The chapter has received a memorial donation to assist with the construction of a greenhouse. (Photo courtesy CPS)

Village Board Seeks New Member

Body At the November meeting of the Callaway Village Board new member TJ Elliott was sworn in. He replaces long-time board member Ken Pitkin who elected to retire from his position.
