For nearly 40 years many farmers and ranchers in central Nebraska have relied on Badgley Well Service for their agricultural water needs. That service will continue but will now be under new ownership.

Give Blood, Help Save Lives The American Red Cross will host a blood drive in Callaway at the Community Center on Monday, Sept. 30, from 9 a.m.

Senior Life Solutions hosted the 2nd Annual Suicide Prevention and Awareness Walk and “Wear Purple and Teal Day” on Sept. 18. Staff of Callaway District Hospital joined several members of the community of all ages for a walk around the school track to help raise awareness of the potential signs of someone considering suicide, and what we can do to help.

The Sept. 9 meeting of the Callaway Board of Education began with public hearings to present the district’s 2024-25 budget and tax request. The hearings were an opportunity for Superintendent JD Furrow to present the budget and tax asking to the public, and for patrons to ask any questions they may have. There was no public comment on either.

The 96th Annual Custer County American Legion Convention was hosted by Mason City Post 142 Family on Sept. 8 at Mason City. The joint session was called to order by Custer County American Legion Commander Bill Schaad in the Mason City Community Building.

As harvest time nears, the Nebraska Corn Board (NCB) and the Nebraska Corn Growers Association (NeCGA) recognize and understand the importance of National Farm Safety and Health Week by providing safety tips for agriculture and harvest. This year’s theme is Don’t Learn Safety by Accident.

As of July 1, new legislative bills to enhance Medicaid services have gone into effect, expanding access to healthcare services. Medicaid is a joint federal and state program offering medical coverage to a broad range of individuals with limited income and resources.

Earlier this month, three of the CNEDD staff participated in Governor Pillen’s Ag & Economic Development Summit held in Kearney. Over 600 representatives from across the state, and beyond, were present throughout the day.
