Nansel Family Reunites in Callaway

On Sunday, July 17, 13 members of Bunk Nansel's family gathered at the Senior Center in Callaway for a potluck dinner and an afternoon of visiting. Those in attendance were Drew and Deirdra Goodwin of Rapid City, South Dakota, Roberta Nansel, Terry and Melanie Sheen, all of Grand Island; Linda Lawrence and Lance Stryker of Callaway, Lee Ann Young of Lexington, Cliff and Linda Meads and Tatum Meads of Elm Creek and Craig and Bernita Meads of Overton. Next year the dinner will be held on July 16, 2023.

New Bill Introduced to Lower Gas Prices

Although the summer travel season is starting to wind down, the introduction of the Next Generation Fuels Act could bring cheaper gas prices to drivers. On June 26, Senator Charles Grassley (R-IA) introduced this bipartisan bill to the U.S. Senate with the support of Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Joni Ernst (R-IA) and Tammy Duckworth (D-IL).

State Patrol Emphasizes Safe Speeds

The Nebraska State Patrol is urging motorists to maintain safe speeds as the summer travel season continues. The guidance is part of the national Stop Speeding Before It Stops You campaign, which is running from July 20 through August 14.

DHHS Reminders for Immunization Month

All adults should consider a COVID-19 vaccine, tetanus (Tdap) vaccine, and a yearly influenza vaccine. Other vaccines based on your age, health conditions, job, lifestyle, or travel habits may be needed such as a zoster (shingles) and a pneumonia vaccination. Talk with your doctor about the best options to make sure you are up to date on vaccines.

New Directors are now Living the Good Life

Callaway has had a nursing home facility in the community since 1963, and has operated under the ownership of various companies during its years. When it looked as though the town might actually lose the facility a few years ago, a group of individuals stepped up to make sure that didn’t happen.
