For decades the corner of Kimball Street and the River Road has been occupied by a gas station. Just about everyone in the area was familiar with Corner Stop, and its long-time owner, Robert Pitkin. Now the corner has a new owner, and a new look.
For some 4-H’ers, the best way to spend a late summer weekend is to compete in livestock shows at the Nebraska State Fair. Dawson County beef, sheep, swine, and poultry traveled to Grand Island with their owners to compete against the rest of the best from across the state, according to the Dawson County Extension Office. Here are the details of the 2022 State Fair Livestock competitions:
Beef Showmanship – In Senior Beef showmanship, blue ribbons were awarded to Lizzie David (B) and Trina Pearson (B).
Greetings from Germany! By the time this column reaches you, Hubby and I will be winging our way home from a wonderful nine days spent in Germany and Belgium. We left last week to fly to Germany for the wedding of our 2012 IFYE to Nebraska from Germany, Chiara Wagner.
Although I had been an exchange student for six months back in 1980, I never got to go to a wedding. So the whole experience was new for both of us. While the logistics vary from family to family the Germans have three steps to getting married.
September is Suicide Prevention & Awareness Month, and Callaway District Hospital’s Senior Life Solutions is raising awareness about suicide by hosting an Open House with a Popcorn Bar. This event will take place at the Senior Life Solutions office, 108 North Davidson Ave (East side of the hospital) on Thursday, Sept. 22 from 1:00-3:00 pm. According to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), there were, on average, 130 suicide deaths and an estimated 1.2 million suicide attempts in 2020.
