The Custer County Fair was held from July 29 - Aug. 4, and many area youngsters showed various projects and livestock through their involvement with 4-H and FFA.
Lynn and Susanne Longmore are the July Yard of the Month winners. The Longmore’s were nominated by individuals. Like the rest of Callaway, Lynn and Susanne’s yard was hit by the hail storm in early June. Her flowers seem to be coming out of it nicely! Susanne enjoys all the colors and variety of plants she has. Lynn mows and Susanne takes care of the flower beds. Here Stacy Guthard, right, presents Susanne with her Yard of the Month prize.
June Yard of the Month winner was Gailard and Joan Longmore. The hail hit all of their flowers hard, but they seem to be coming back strong! Joan says she enjoys spending time outside and working in their yard and it shows. Here Joan soaks up some fresh air on her front porch, flanked by some of her beautiful flowers.
ELLEN MORTENSEN Lake Helen, located on Lake Avenue, will be rocking for Jesus this Saturday, as thousands of visitors converge on Gothenburg for the 10th annual Livin’ Out Loud outdoor concert. Featured artists this year include Ben Fuller, Jonathan Traylor, Apollo LTD, Anne Wilson and Zach Williams.
Today, Aug. 18, is the first day of classes for the 2022-23 school year at Callaway Public School, and the staff and students are welcoming a new administrator to the district. Brittany Jesseph hails from Gothenburg, and said she is excited to begin this new chapter.
ELLEN MORTENSEN The Village of Callaway Pool Committee hosted an informational open house on July 13, to provide residents with a look at the proposed design for a new pool in the village. The meeting was also an opportunity for residents to ask questions and receive information on the financial impact of a new pool on the community.
