Summary of November Legion Auxiliary Meeting
On Nov. 21, 2022, Unit 59 of the Callaway Legion Auxiliary met at the American Legion Hall in Callaway. Deondra Lashley, President, called the meeting to order at 6:30. She led with the Pledge of Allegiance, we sang the Star Spangled Banner, recited our Auxiliary Preamble and our Chaplin, Joyce Brestel, read a prayer. We proceeded with the minutes of our last meeting. The minutes were approved as read.
MaryAnn Boldt handed out our financial report. We have most of the dues paid, and our Soup and Dessert supper brought in a nice amount of income. We now have a balance of $8,053.84. Between contributions to the Department and just a variety of other bills we had expenses of $950.58, which now leaves us a balance of $7,106.51. Out of this we still have money to pay for the rest of the Wreaths for Vets.
Joyce made a motion to pay Jo Chesley for the 12 wreaths she bought, and MaryAnn Boldt for the 12 wreaths which she purchased. Joyce also mentioned the bill at the village and the Market bill for the things we needed for the Vets Supper and the County Convention. Mickey Gavin seconded the motion and it received unanimous approval.
We have the Mid Year Auction coming up Jan. 15, we need winter items and snack items for the auction. MaryAnn made a motion to spend $50 for Mid-year warm winter
items for homeless vets. Jo seconded this motion and it was approved unanimously. In March the Spring Conference will happen.
County Government Day in Broken Bow will be held Monday, Nov. 28. Callaway received a plaque for the most people helping out. Sargent received a plaque for the most students.
The Star has found mistakes in our history and they will be sending out corrections. Jo made a motion for the Presidents project to contribute $10 for cords and MaryAnn seconded this motion and it received unanimous vote of approval.
If we have our list of Vets from the last couple of years we need to get our Christmas cards written out and sent off to them.
The food pantry: Jo made a motion to donate $50 now and in June we need to donate $50 again. Micky seconded this motion and it was approved unanimously.
It was decided we should meet at the cemetery to lay out wreaths at 2:00 on Dec. 4. We discussed a future project of taking a class on cleaning headstones in the spring, as some could really use a cleaning.
Education week is past but we discussed the backpack project. Jo made a motion to donate $100 to help fill these backpacks. We might make cookies also. MaryAnn seconded this motion and it was approved.
