CPS Welcomes Two New Teachers

Body Callaway Public School welcomes students and faculty back to the building to kick off the 2026-27 school year today, Aug. 20. Helping educate the kiddos this year will be two teachers new to the CPS district.
Kendra Boyd will serve as the grades 7-12 science teacher at Callaway Public School this year. Kendra lives in Gothenburg with her husband, Shawn.

Body Today, Aug. 20, is the first day of classes for students at Callaway Public School. As a new year gets underway in the classroom, extracurricular activities are also kicking off this week. This evening the South Loup Lady Bobcats volleyball team will host Burwell beginning at 6 p.

Body 50 YEARS AGO: The Callaway men’s softball team won the Callaway Chamber of Commerce men’s softball tournament Aug. 13-15, by defeating Pleasanton 12-6.

Field Day Next Week Near Broken Bow

Body Producers can get an up-close look at 14 warm-season forage varieties and compare their performance side by side during the Warm Season Forage Field Day on Thursday, Aug. 27, near Broken Bow.

The Show Must Go On

Body Weather tried to stop it, but perseverance prevailed. Even without the big stage, the bright lights, and the booming sound system, Livin’ Out Loud 2026 happened.

Body Friends, residents and landowners of the Callaway Fire and Rescue District are invited to the Annual BBQ Fundraiser on Sunday, Aug. 16, at the Callaway Community Center. Pulled pork and BBQ beef sandwiches will be served from 5-7:30 p.m.

SORC - Where Strangers Become Family

Body Weather may have delayed the start of the 2026 Sandhills Open Road Challenge (SORC) road race on Saturday morning, Aug. 8, but once the thunderstorm had rolled through, the drivers were ready to roll as well.
Dan and Leah Aksimit from Broomfield, Colorado, drive in the SORC race every year - Dan for the last 25 years, and Leah for the last 10. This year Dan won the Loup 2 Loup 110 mph class in this 2016 Corvette, while Leah drove the car in Saturday’s SORC. While they love the racing, both said it is the people that make SORC so special.
