CHS Students Receive Academic Honors

Callaway High School held a program Tuesday morning, May 7, to honor the academic and fine arts achievements of its students during the 2023-24 school year. A special ceremony was also held during the program to induct new members into the prestigious National Honor Society.

UNMC Congratulates 2024 Graduates

Diplomas and certificates were conferred on more than 1,100 University of Nebraska Medical Center students during ceremonies held May 2 in Lincoln, Norfolk, and Kearney and May 4 in Omaha and Scottsbluff. The following is a list of area graduates organized by college, degree, and hometown.

Chemigation Permit Renewal Deadline June 1

Farmers planning to use chemigation (fertigation) to apply fertilizer or other chemicals to crops have a deadline of June 1, 2024, for permit renewal from the Lower Loup Natural Resources District. Completed chemigation permit applications must be received by the Lower Loup NRD on or before that date.

Ceremony Honors Callaway Hero

The legacy of Robert D. Booker, a hero from Callaway, was recently honored in a special ceremony in Aberdeen, Maryland on April 18, 2024.
A ceremony held in Aberdeen, Maryland last month paid tribute to local hero Pvt. Robert D. Booker and Pennsylvania hero Staff Sgt. Stevon Booker. Members of Robert Booker's family from Custer County were present for the ceremony christening a new combat vehicle named for the two U.S. Army veterans who paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country. National American Legion Family Day was celebrated at the Callaway Legion Hall on the evening of April 26. Hors d'oeuvres were provided by Auxiliary Unit #59 for the “come & go” event. It was a time of fellowship to honor all Legion Family members including the American Legion, the Legion Auxiliary, and the Sons of the American Legion. Members of the local Legion, Auxiliary, and Sons organizations were present.
