First Election Requiring Photo ID

Tuesday, May 14, was primary election day in Nebraska and the first time the state has required a photo ID in order to cast a ballot. With turnout for a primary election, especially one without many contested races or controversial issues, traditionally being on the low side, it is difficult to know if the requirement made any difference in the number of people going to the polls.

Tesa Pandorf plans to attend Northeast Community College in Norfolk this fall where she will major in animal science - a 2-year program. She shared her plans for the future and summarized her time at Callaway Public School during her senior presentation to her peers earlier this month.

Offering Gratitude For What Didn’t Happen

After watching my partner complete 33 treatments of radiation, I sat in the waiting room on the last day offering gratitude. Yes, I was relieved the treatments were over. Driving 60 minutes each day to the cancer center was taxing. Cutting the work day short five days a week took a toll. And watching the side-effects accumulate over time was concerning. So, the relief was palpable on the last day.

The Custer County Courthouse and all of its offices will be closed on Monday, May 27, in observance of Memorial Day. Legion Post 59 will be having their Memorial Service at Rose Hill Cemetery at 10:30 on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27.

Where One Story Ends, A New Story Begins

It was the end of the line for 12 Callaway Public School students on Sunday, May 12, and the beginning of the line for 11 others on Monday. The day after a dozen seniors gathered for the final time as a class and received their high school diplomas, 11 youngsters were recognized during a preschool graduation ceremony.
Twelve seniors ended their careers at Callaway Public School on Sunday, while on Monday, 11 preschool students had their own graduation and look forward to beginning their journey in kindergarten next year. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Laible Shares Life Lessons Learned

Delaynie Laible is one of the members of the now-graduated Callaway High School Class of 2024. She is the daughter of Tom and Gina Laible, sister to two brothers and three sisters, aunt to two nephews and one niece, and has a Great Pyrenees named Marley. Dalaynie shared this information, as well as plans for her future and a summary of her time at CHS, during her senior presentation to the student body.

Plans Underway For Busy Summer

It’s official. With yesterday, May 15, being the last day of school summer break has begun! The state track meet in Omaha this week will be the final activity of the 2023-24 school year for Callaway students.
Barbecue lovers will delight in the offerngs of the annual Blowin' The Doors Off BBQ on Saturday, June 1, in Oconto. The event traditionally kicks off a season full of activities in the area. (Courier file photo)
