Helping Shine The Light On Mental Health

Body
“We all need a little help from our friends.” It’s more than just a famous line from an old Beatles song. It’s a reminder that we all have struggles in life and that none of us were meant to carry the burden of those struggles alone.

POPPY DAY

Body
National Poppy Day is observed on the Friday preceding Memorial Day. On Sept 27, 1920, the red poppy became the official flower of Legion Family. Poppies represent the blood shed during wartimes and the servicemen who have died in battle while serving our country. Red crepe paper poppies are made by Veterans and other volunteers and all donations received are used for various Veteran programs. The poppies are distributed by Legion Auxiliary members to those desiring to give a donation. Several Junior Auxiliary members of Unit #59 helped with Poppy Day held in Callaway on May 24. Shown front to back are Junior members Lauren Reiff, Josie Reiff, and Kaygan Witthuhn accepting a donation from an employee of a local business. (Photo courtesy Jo Chesley)

CCSO Participates In ‘And Then It Clicked’

Body
From May 20 to June 2, the Custer County Sheriff’s Office will be participating in the “And Then It Clicked” campaign. “We want seat belt use to be an automatic habit for drivers and passengers alike, it’s not just a safe thing to do — it’s the law.” During the “And Then It Clicked” campaign, we’ll be working with our fellow law enforcement officers across local and state lines to ensure the message gets out to drivers and passengers. Buckling up is the simplest thing you can do to limit injury or save your life during a crash. We see the results of not wearing a seat belt all the time. We see the loss of life. So often, it could have been prevented. Buckle up and stay safe!

Board Grants Early Graduation Request

Body
Board Grants Early Graduation Request There is a common theory that by the second semester of their senior year of high school, most students become extremely unsettled and distracted - to the point that a name has even been given to the behavior - “Senior-itis”. One Callaway teen is looking to avoid that pattern.
Carleigh Laible, pictured standing facing the camera, gave a presentation to the school board on May 13 outlining why she believes she should be allowed to graduate in December 2024, rather than waiting until May. (Courier photo by Ellen Mortensen)
