Residents of Callaway and the surrounding area were busy all weekend digging out of 6 to 8-foot drifts that came out of the snowstorm that hit here early the morning of Nov. 19. An unofficial report by one who shoveled their share was 8 to 10 inches. A freezing rain caught the livestock off guard and the snow hit, causing some losses in the area.

Custer County 4-Hers Receive Honors

The Custer County 4-H Recognition Night was held on Sunday, Nov. 16, at the 4-H Building in Broken Bow. The event is sponsored annually by the Nebraska State Bank and Trust Co. and Arrow Seed Co., Inc., in conjunction with the Nebraska Extension in Custer County and the Custer County 4-H Council.

CVFD Adds New Equipment to Emergency Vehicles

The Callaway Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department has recently added some lifesaving equipment and supplies to each fire truck. CVFD put together five kits for each of its apparatus containing an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), First Aid Kit, and a Tourniquet.

Minutes of November Callaway Legion Auxiliary

The Callaway American Legion Auxiliary’s monthly meeting started at 6:30 p.m. at the Callaway Legion Hall on Nov. 17, 2025. Our President, Cora Belew, called the meeting to order. Chaplin Joyce Brestel started the meeting with a prayer. We then followed our President in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, singing the Star Spangled Banner, and saying the Auxiliary Preamble.

CHS Students Participate in County Government Day

Body
On Monday, Nov. 17, 106 students from across Custer County gathered in Broken Bow for County Government Day. The students were split up into smaller groups and went to the different county offices from where they received briefings and were able to ask questions. The students had great participation as they asked an amazing 234 questions of the County Officials.
