BLAST FROM THE PAST
50 YEARS AGO:
George Wright of Callaway Public Schools received notification that Callaway had been designated a Bicentennial Community by the American Revolution Bicentennial Administration. The community received a certificate and bicentennial flag in conjunction with that designation.
There were 73 pints of blood collected at the regular Bloodmobile visit to Callaway on Feb. 18. There were 10 first-time donors and two deferrals. Elmo Witthuhn of Callaway was awarded a four-gallon pin.
20 YEARS AGO:
For the first time since Callaway High School began competing at the Ogallala Invitational The Bears speech team qualified someone in finals in each of the events and took medals in all events on Feb. 18. CHS won 20 medals during the day’s competition and brought home eight superior ribbons.
Callaway ended a long medal drought when senior Kyle Berg came home with fourth place in the 152-pound weight class from the state wrestling tournament in Omaha. Other state qualifiers for CHS were Travis Stithem at 103 pounds and Kurt Berg at 140 pounds.
