Custer County 4-H Hosts Public Speaking Contest

The Custer County 4-H Public Speaking Contest was held on Monday, April 10 at the 4-H Building in Broken Bow. Eleven entries were made by Custer County 4-H youth in five divisions. Award donors for the contest included Tom & Mary Langrud, Cindy Pearson in Memory of Bill Pearson, and Arnold Rotary.

Members of the Nebraska Press Association gathered at the Cornhusker Marriott in Lincoln this past weekend for the 150th anniversary convention. Former NPA Executive Director Allen Beerman stated that NPA was one of the first, if not THE first organization formed in Nebraska.

Bechtold Headed to American Legion Auxiliary Girls State

Jazlynn Bechtold of Oconto has been selected to attend American Legion Auxiliary Cornhusker Girls State June 4-10, 2023, on the campus of the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. Bechtold will study local, county and state government processes in this nonpartisan political learning experience. Every spring, the American Legion Auxiliary Girls State Program provides approximately 25,000 young women with a hands-on educational opportunity designed to instruct tomorrow’s leaders in the privileges and duties of responsible citizenship.

Registration Now Open For Garage Sale Day

Callaway Community Wide Garage Sales are set for Saturday, June 10. Though that may seem far off, it will be here before we know it! Registrations are available now at Callaway True Value. Registration fees are used to pay for advertising. The Chamber is asking everyone who has a garage sale to register and help pay for advertising to get people to Callaway that day. The Community Wide Garage Sales are hosted by the Callaway Chamber of Commerce.

Callaway Walk For Life

Callaway residents will have an opportunity to come together for a time of “neighborly exercise” while helping others. The Walk For Life is scheduled for Saturday, May 6 at Morgan Park. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. and the one-mile walk will get underway at 10 a.m. Anyone wishing to walk further than one mile may walk the route as many times as they would like. Registration fee is $50, which includes a t-shirt, and all proceeds go to the Women’s Resource Center in North Platte.

While the issue of expanding the existing preschool program from a half day to full day at Callaway Public Schools has been laid to rest for the time being, at least one community member is not ready to give up on the idea quite yet.

Representatives from First Interstate Bank recently donated $500 to the Callaway Youth Soccer Association. The Callaway Youth Soccer Association is a new, free community program offered to youth pre-kindergarten through sixth grade students.
