Lexington journalist Barb Batie has been named the 2022 Communicator of Achievement (COA) by Nebraska Press Women (NPW). This award, which was presented at the organization's fall conference in Kearney, is one of the highest honors for NPW members. Selection is based on the nominee's professional achievements, community service and service to the organization.

The 2022 4-H Recognition program for Custer County will be held Nov. 20 at the 4-H Building in Broken Bow. Sponsors for the event are Arrow Seed Co., Inc., Nebraska State Bank & Trust Co., and Nebraska Extension in Custer County.

Join Us For Kids Carnival This Saturday

The ninth annual Callaway Fall Kids Carnival is this Saturday, Nov. 5 from 3 – 5 p.m. at the Callaway Community Center. The Carnival is for children preschool age to sixth grade. The American Legion Auxiliary will be providing free concessions. There is no charge for any games or activities. All kids and their parents are invited to wear their Halloween costumes to the Carnival. We will set up Saturday morning and only need a few volunteers to help us. Cake Walk items can be dropped off Saturday morning as well – please call if you need to drop off items earlier.

The 33rd Annual Kolbo Family reunion was held at the Callaway Senior Center in Callaway on Sunday, Oct. 9. Hosting were daughters of Janice Loghry, Mitzi Graham and Dawn Hiatt and families. A covered dish dinner was served to 25 family members.

The Callaway Chamber of Commerce hosted the annual Trunk-or-Treat on main street on Monday, Oct. 31. Adults throughout the community - including staff at the school - got in the spirit by donning minion costumes at school, and to hand out candy to the kiddos downtown.

The ninth annual Callaway Fall Kids Carnival is scheduled this year for Saturday, Nov. 5 from 3 – 5 p.m. at the Callaway Community Center. The Carnival will have games, activities, prizes and other surprises for children from preschool age to sixth grade. There will also be a Cake Walk and the American Legion Auxiliary will be providing free concessions.
