Flat Earth, Tall Corn - And How Technology Has Changed

Body
Grandpa used to talk about corn being knee-high by the fourth of July. When he was a young man, a corn crop was off to a good start if it was that tall by Independence Day. The old saying is no longer the standard, nor is grandpa still a young man; in fact, quite a little has changed since the 1950s. In 2023, in this part of the world, there will probably be corn shoulder high (or very near that) by the fourth of July.

June is National Homeownership Month: USDA Celebrates With Nebraska Rural Development To Grow Communities

Body
In a small town in rural Nebraska on a quiet street lined with trees and pickup trucks sits a little yellow house on a corner. In the window, there is a red, white, and blue sign that says: Home of the Free Because of the Brave. Inside, one of the brave – an army veteran – makes rural Nebraska home with help from USDA Rural Development. As Nebraska State Director for USDA Rural Development, this scene makes me proud. It is a snapshot of what USDA Rural Development is all about: taking pride in rural Nebraska and investing in the people who invest in America through their service, through producing food and fuel, and by building up rural communities.
