Our thanks to all of you who came to join in and celebrate on the 4th of July evening of patriotic honor and remembrance. The generosity of so many help to make this display possible including the Village of Callaway, the American Legion, the Chamber, the Fire Department (and EMT’s with ambulance tours), the American Legion Auxiliary, the Callaway Market, the Plant Stand, as well as many thoughtful individual donations. The Presentation of Colors by the American Legion to begin this program blended with patriotic tunes by TR Anderson of Borderline to make this “God Bless America” display meaningful and heartfelt. The Fire Department took care of safety from beginning to end and the Tail Twisters Western Riders 4-H contributed the clean-up.

SHIRLEY TROUT, AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY Cleaning of veterans’ headstones in area cemeteries, installation of officers, and a Girls State report were among the items addressed at the June meeting of the Callaway American Legion Auxiliary. The Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA) is pleased to announce the student recipients of the Spring 2023 Nebraska Chiropractic Physicians Association (NCPA) Academic All-State Awards. Since 2006 this NSAA Awards Program has recognized students who meet the criteria for nomination by their school in the season of their activity.

The Custer County Fair kicks off next Thursday, July 20, with the annual 4-H style juding and clothing construction judging event held each year at the Evangelical Free Church in Broken Bow. The 4-H members will model their projects in a public fashion show that evening beginning at 7 p.m. at the church.

ALAN BARTELS, INFORMATION & EDUCATION COORDINATOR I’d heard of Nebraska’s Natural Resources Districts, but before I joined the staff of the Lower Loup NRD (LLNRD) a couple of years ago, I didn’t know much about the organization’s work. Heck, I was friends with several LLNRD staff members and still had no idea.

Back in 1991 country music superstar Garth Brooks recorded a huge hit song titled “Rodeo”. The song chronicles the life of a cowboy who gets the rodeo bug so deep in his blood that he is willing to sacrifice just about anything for the thrill of the sport. Young Callaway cowboy Kaleb Hunt will tell you that feeling is very real. And the bug? Well, he has caught it.
