While most other 16 and 17-year-olds are enjoying their summer break from school with fun days at the lake, camp-outs, or maybe working a few hours a week for a bit of spending money, two Callaway High School students have opted for a different route. Brady Brestel and Dylan Handley have decided to answer the call to serve their country, and the two young men are spending the summer before their senior year of high school at, of all places…basic training.

“When I graduated from high school at SEM, the one thing I knew I didn't want to be was a teacher!,” said Suzanne Wendorff. “My mom was a teacher and I honestly didn't like school that much, so I went to business school at Lincoln School of Commerce.”

Sarah Garrett and Mitchell Wolf of Cozad announce the birth of a daughter, born May 15, 2023, at Gothenburg Health. Willow Anne Wolf entered the world at 2:05 a.m. weighing 6 pounds 12 ounces and measuring 19 inches in length. She is being welcomed home by sisters Saryah Carter and Serenity Carter. Grandparents are Brad and Julie Niles of Cozad, and Brenda McDonald. Great-grandparents are Melvin and Lavonne Juenemann of Norton, Kansas and Elsie Wolf of Norton, Kansas.

Dustin Lee and Tonia Ann Wimmer of Cozad announce the arrival of a daughter, born May 19, 2023, at Gothenburg Health. Lillee Ann Wimmer was born at 10:48 a.m. weighing 7 pounds 13 ounces and measuring 19.5 inches. Lillee is being welcomed home by a big brother, Dustin Lee Wimmer, Jr. Grandparents are Norma R. Farewell of Cozad, Jodi Dewey of Farnam and Brady Dewey of Farnam.

It takes more than a little rain to keep folks away from good BBQ! On Saturday, June 3, a large crowd gathered in the small town of Oconto for the annual Blowin’ The Doors Off BBQ. “Despite two rain showers we had a very good attendance of 1,180 people, which is an increase from 1,115 in attendance in 2022,” said Brett Eggleston, one of the organizers of the event.

It has been an emotional ride this spring for us and our church family as we have bid farewell to some longtime members and true family friends. Since January we have lost two gentlemen and held celebrations of life for each.
