The Callaway Chamber of Commerce works diligently to make the Old Fashioned Christmas Around Town an extra special event, and this year was no exception. Activities for Christmas Around Town, which was held on Wednesday evening, Dec. 6, were spread throughout various locations in the community.

I’ve written about catalpa trees and cedar trees, but last month my attention was drawn to oak trees. I was blowing the leaves out of my hosta garden and there they were, two volunteer oak trees about 18” tall.

The Nebraska Department of Education released the Nebraska Student-Centered Assessment System (NSCAS) results and the Accountability for a Quality Education System Today and Tomorrow, or AQuESTT classifications on Nov. 22, 2023. That’s a mouthful, and to put it in layman’s terms, both reports provide insight into how students are performing academically on Nebraska’s state standards.

Anyway, happy newish shear to sall, And to shall a goosh nisht.

The American Legion Auxiliary monthly meeting started at 5:00 p.m. at the Callaway Legion Hall on December 18, 2023. We did not have our President, our Vice President or our Financial Officer in attendence. We that were present decided to have an unofficial meeting to go over things that needed discussed, as the next time we would meet would be in January.

The Callaway Community Foundation Fund has announced the date and theme for their annual fundraiser Gala. The 'Maroon & Gold Gala' will be held on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024 at the Callaway Community Center.

As we ring in a new year, we at the Courier wanted to take a moment to remind you of some of the stories that made our headlines in 2023. It was a big year in Callaway with lots of exciting things happening.

Country Partners will host a retirement party for Jim Dodge on Friday, Dec. 22, from 2-4 p.m. at the Callaway Agronomy building. Jim has a combined total of 44 years of service to this area. The public is invited to stop by and thank Jim for his years of dedicated service to the Callaway area ag community and to wish him well in his future endeavors. Refreshments will be served.
