Monday, July 22, is the date for the annual Back-to-School Book Bag/ School Supplies Giveaway, sponsored by the Custer County Salvation Army. This event will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

As summer gets into full swing, the American Red Cross asks donors to be a powerful force for good by giving blood now and in the weeks to come. Full summer calendars and holiday plans may prevent regular donors from being able to give. Additionally, significant summer weather threats such as hurricanes, flooding, and tornadoes can result in travel hazards and blood drive cancellations that could impact the blood supply.

Twelve of the 17 members of the Callaway High School class of 2019 met for their 5-year class reunion during the Pioneer Picnic weekend. Prior to their potluck supper and walk down memory lane, however, the classmates met in front of their Alma Matre to pay tribute to a class member who is no longer with them.

Andrew is a “new” bird watcher. He accepted the challenge of identifying the various birds in his neighborhood a year or so ago. He now has moved to the country and there are more birds to identify there, a lot more. The other day he took a walk with the dog and with his Merlin Bird Identification app on his phone set to listen for bird songs. He found he was surrounded by about 15 different species, one being Cedar Waxwings.

Fresh off the heels of the Callaway Pioneer Picnic our neighbors to the east will be hosting their annual community event this weekend. The 2024 Oconto Fun Day celebration is set for July 5, 6, and 7.

On Thursday afternoon, June 27, Timothy A. Rosentrater, age 62 of Callaway, appeared for a preliminary hearing in Custer County District Court on additional charges filed in May of 2024. In all, Rosentrater is charged with four counts of 1st degree sexual assault, Class II felonies; eight counts of sexual assault of a child, Class IIIA felonies, one count of 2nd degree sexual assault, a Class III felony, and one count of 3rd degree sexual assault, a Class I misdemeanor.
