Celebrating Callaway With Citizen of the Year

A large crowd gathered at the Callaway Community Center on Sunday, April 3 to enjoy some great food and mingle with their neighbors. Obviously, the key to keeping a rural town alive and thriving is the ability to retain population. The chance to add to the census numbers is icing on the cake- and in the past few years Callaway has done some icing.

Legislature Debates Uses For ARPA Funds

Greetings from your State Capitol! This week the Nebraska Legislature continued its debate on adjustments to the biennial budget. In addition to budget adjustments, the Legislature continued debate on LB1014, the bill that will allocate $1.04 billion in federal funds the state received through the American Recovery Plan Act (ARPA). The bill will be read on final reading and sent to the Governor for his signature or line-item vetoes.

Local Students Receive CCF Scholarships

The Custer County Foundation held their annual Scholarship Award Ceremony on Sunday, March 20 at the Arnold High School Gymnasium in Arnold. Alicia Hermsmeyer, Board Member and President of the Custer County Foundation, conducted the welcome to the estimated 350 people in attendance. Alicia also introduced the guest speaker, Grace Magill, who grew up in Arnold and graduated from Arnold High School.

Celebrate Callaway This Sunday

Come join us for an evening of fun and networking! The Callaway Chamber of Commerce is hosting ‘Celebrate Callaway’ this Sunday, April 3. The event is being held at the Callaway Community Center beginning at 5:30 pm. and will include a potluck dinner with Chamber members being asked to bring a main dish and a salad or dessert.

The primary election is less than six weeks away. That means we have another five weeks of television political ads to sit through. It also means we have five weeks to determine which candidates we think would best represent us in the offices they are seeking.

Todd and Sarah Phelps of Arnold announce the birth of a daughter on March 26, 2022 at Gothenburg Health. Shiloh Arlette Phelps was born at 4:24 p.m. weighing 8 pounds 11 ounces and measuring 20 inches in length. Shiloh is being welcomed home by big brothers Logan and Alex, and sisters Haylee, Johannah, Laura, Kendra and Ilana. Grandparents are Chuck and Jeneane Welshans of Benkelman, and Frank Stephens of Lyn Haven, Florida.
